Lullaby Bay Baby Monitor

What does 'Anti Hack' mean and why don't you use Wifi?

What makes a device vulnerable to hacking is that it is connected to the Internet/Wifi. Lullaby Bay avoids this the baby unit talks directly to the parent unit by radio. It’s also encrypted and uses frequency hopping (FHSS) for added security.

How do I change the battery on my Lullaby Bay baby monitor?

Click the link for a video showing how to change the battery in your Lullaby Bay baby monitor. It's a simple process and spare batteries are available through the same link.

How can I make sure my monitor volume is just right - not too loud or quiet - every time I switch it on?

You can easily make sure your volume is perfect on start up. Just change it to your favourite level (we usually recommend 2 or 3) and then (and this is the important bit) press the 'OK' button. Your default volume is now set.

How do I change the time and date?
How do I change the VOX sensitivity?

The VOX mode means that the unit is in 'power saving mode' with the screen off until a sound is
detected by the camera. As soon as a noise is detected the screen and audio on your parent unit
automatically start up.
You can set the sensitivity of this mode so that it 'wakes' the screen at a very slight such as your
baby turning over noise (high sensitivity), or at a louder noise level such as a cry (low sensitivity).
VOX mode means that you can always know that the monitor will wake you if your baby stirs, but
the screen is not on all the time, saving a lot of power – the battery can last overnight when the
screen is asleep. Also, if you wake during the night and want to check on your baby you can just
press any button and the screen will wake even if your baby is silently sleeping and no noise is
detected.
How to set up VOX mode on your monitor
1) Press the 'VOX' button on the top right of the parent unit (VOX mode is now on – a message on
the screen will say Open VOX and a blue VOX symbol will appear on the top of the screen.
2) To set the sensitivity - first press the 'menu' button
3) Use the up and down arrows on the round control to move down to the VOX menu item and
select this.
4) In the VOX menu, press the button with the 'microphone' symbol once (this will give you the
sensitivity options)
5) You can now use the arrow keys on the circular button to choose between low, medium and high
sensitivity. (low sensitivity will need a louder sound to wake the monitor and high sensitivity will
require very little sound) Press OK to set the level (you will get a message saying 'DONE' if you've done this correctly)
6) To exit the menu just press the back/return button (the curved arrow on the right of the circular
control). Click the link for a video showing how to set the VOX sensitivity

Does the monitor need mains power or battery?

Once charged, the parent unit can work on battery power and the camera needs mains power at all times. We want to make sure you can use your monitor for years to come so if you ever want a spare battery, they're available on here.

Sometimes the screen goes blank when my baby's room is quiet - why is this? (spoiler - it's probably VOX mode)

It sounds like your monitor is in VOX mode. This is an energy saving mode which switches off the screen when the baby's room is silent and turns it back on when a sound is detected. Click the link for a video showing how to use VOX mode.

My baby ate my monitor! Do you sell spare parts?

You are not alone, every week we get emails about teething babies chewing on the parent units, toddlers posting them down the loo or sleepy parents dropping them in the bath!
Don't worry - replacement parts can be found on our store page here.

Will other electronic devices interfere with the Baby Monitor signal?

The short answer is no, because our monitor uses 'channel hopping' to find the best (clearest) frequency, but there are some handy tips that can help maximise the signal strength and the range.  (the following it’s a bit techie at first but stick with it!)

The Lullaby Bay baby monitor, like most baby monitors that use RF (radio frequencies) operates in the ‘2.4Ghz RF range’.

It has to share this range (and compete) with various things in your home – for example: any devices that use Wi-Fi - so not just your Wi-Fi router or laptop; iPad; gaming console for example but also Alexa/Google Home devices; ‘Ring’ smart doorbells; smart devices, your mobile phone when it’s connected to Wi-Fi etc etc. (and if your neighbours live very close, their devices too!) It’s not just Wi-Fi that can interfere with baby monitors. They also might need to compete with anything using Bluetooth, and, surprisingly, even microwave ovens and car alarms are also in the same frequency range as are other RF devices such as TV remote controls and some cordless phones.

Additionally, thick walls or placing a unit in an alcove or behind heavy furniture can reduce the signal range and having electrical equipment or large metal objects for example, a fridge, a filing cabinet, a large mirror or reinforced concrete between the two units can block the signal too.

Even simply being plugged into an extension lead or 2-way adapter with other electrical equipment, can cause some interference or block signals as can fluorescent lights and dimmer switches (who knew?)

On their own these things won’t make a huge difference but they can add up, so if you have a combination of thick walls and your parent unit is next to a microwave oven that's in use, then this is likely to cause image delays as the monitor has to re-send its ‘packets’ of data ...you’ll probably have seen this on other devices as a frozen or pixelated image which then seems to catch up. (It’s more noticeable in video monitors than audio ones as there is a lot more data to send). So just keep things like this in mind when setting your monitor up or when moving the portable parent unit around your home.

If you have any questions at all then please do get in touch with us directly  - there's always soemone here to help.

How do I use the two way talk function to soothe my baby?

You'll need to use the PTT button - this is the 3rd button down on the right of the parent unit (the one with the microphone icon). Press and hold the PTT button and wait until the blue microphone icon appears on the screen before speaking. Remember to release the button again in order to listen. It's a bit like using a walkie-talkie radio. Click the link for a video showing how to use the two way talk function.
